What Is Medicare
Medicare is a health insurance program that was designed to meet the healthcare coverage needs for certain groups of individuals:
- Anyone 65 or older
- Anyone younger than 65 with a disability
- Anyone with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)
There are four parts of Medicare that all newly eligible Medicare members must know about so they know what type of coverage to expect. These parts include:
- Medicare Part A (inpatient hospital insurance)
- Medicare Part B (outpatient medical insurance)
- Medicare Part C (bundles Part A, B, and D coverage into a single plan)
- Medicare Part D (prescription drug coverage)
While similar, try not to confuse Medicare with the federal and state program, Medicaid. Medicaid is different and provides health coverage and other services to anyone with low income.
