How Can I Choose a Medicare Plan?

Before making a decision, you should always consider a few factors that can help guide you toward the right direction. The first factor is cost. Each Medicare plan will have varying costs, even if they offer the same coverage. This is why it’s important to let us compare Medicare Supplements, Part D plans, or Medicare Advantage plans in your area to determine which plan can offer the coverage you need at a price that’s within your budget.

You also need to take into consideration how much you travel. Some plans will cover you throughout the entire U.S. as long as you go to a Medicare-approved facility. Other plans may only cover you when you visit a hospital or doctor that is within their preferred provider network. Going outside of this network can result in high out-of-pocket costs.

You should also ask your doctor what types of Medicare plans they accept. Some may only accept Original Medicare, while others may accept Medicare Advantage plans. Knowing what is accepted by your doctor will help you make a more informed decision on which Medicare plan is best for you.

Deciding Between Medicare Coverage

While the above factors are important to know, you should also consider the coverage provided by each plan. For example, if you have Original Medicare, you can add on a Medicare Supplement to help fill in the gaps and cover what Original Medicare won’t cover.

You can also consider a Medicare Advantage plan, which is more of an alternative to Original Medicare. These plans will provide you with all of your Part A and B benefits, but they can also offer extra benefits. However, keep in mind that you can’t have a Medicare Supplement or Medicare Advantage plan at the same time.

You should also know that Medicare Supplements don’t provide prescription drug coverage, but you can have a standalone Medicare Part D plan. On the other hand, some Medicare Advantage plans will include prescription drug coverage as an added benefit.
